Viscoelastic Response of SMC-R50 Under Different Thermomechanical Conditions


The creep and creep recovery behavior of a random fiber composite (SMC-R50) was investigated. Time-dependent behavior at various stress and temperature levels was experimentally determined. Findley's equation was used to model the viscoelastic behavior of short-term tests. The Findley equation was also used to predict the time-dependent behavior of the random fiber composite for a multiple step loading. Excellent agreement between experimental results and the Findley equation was obtained. Since repeatable results were obtained only for mechanically conditioned specimens, the test results were compared to experimental data obtained from unconditioned specimens. Experimental results of the conditioned specimens fell within the scatter band of the data for the unconditioned specimens.
