Using USDA Soil Conservation Service County Soils Data with a Geographic Information System

Source

A county level soil data set for use in geographic information systems is being developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service. In addition, attribute information will be developed to provide information that is based on soil characteristics. Santa Rosa County, Florida soil survey was used as a sample data set to illustrate the use of the data. Interpretations on severe limitations for septic tank absorption fields and flooding frequency were developed for the county. This is a small sample of the types of information that are available. The main difficulties encountered in using the data are the size of the spatial and attribute information and the identification of needed information from the attribute tables.
