Petrographic Evaluation of Fly Ash Reaction in Concrete and Affects on Maleic Acid Cement Content

Petrographic examination and chemical analysis of fly ash concretes were performed at intervals to study the effects of fly ash content on cement content determination and the fly ash reaction. Cement content values were negatively low at 7 days for each concrete mix. Increases in the percentages of cement were experienced from the 7 day to 112 day tests. Fly ash counts were conducted by thin section microscopy techniques. The 112 day counts were significantly lower than the 7 day readings. The technique was useful in differentiating between low, medium, and high fly ash contents.
