Preparation of a Standard Natural Rubber

Some time ago the National Bureau of Standards called for bids on several tons of natural rubber to be used as a standard similar to the standard GR-S now available. After consideration of the ways by which such rubber might be produced, the author concluded that the United States Rubber Co., on its Sumatra plantations, was probably uniquely equipped to prepare such a material. Therefore, a few trial bales were produced for examination by the Bureau. The preparation of the rubber and a brief recapitulation of the results of its testing as carried out by the Bureau of Standards are here reported.
