New Test Method for Geosynthetic Deterioration by Heat and Air Pressure via Autoclave Aging

1. Scope

This test method covers a procedure to determine the influence of elevated temperature and air pressure on the properties of rubber (EPDM), asphalt and polyamides (PA). The results of this test may give a correlation with service performance. In addition, it may be used to evaluate formulations on a laboratory comparison basis.

Keywords

Autoclave, Accelerated Aging, Geosynthetics

Rationale

Geosynthetics must resist the deterioration of properties with time caused by oxidative and thermal aging. This test method allows these performance properties to be determined under the accelerated conditions of high air pressure and at elevated temperatures via an autoclave.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
