Revision of B831-22 Standard Test Method for Shear Testing of Thin Aluminum Alloy Products

Rationale

This standard test method is currently written for conventional wrought or cast aluminum products with specimens having orientations defined relative to the longitudinal, long-transverse, and short-transverse grain directions (L-T-S coordinate system) for rectangular cross-sections or geometric directions for cylindrical cross-sections (L-C-R coordinate system). This standard test method is now being used for additively manufactured materials and these L-T-S and L-C-R coordinate systems are not appropriate for these types of products. This work item is intended to address the use of this standard for additively manufactured products and incorporate specimen orientations defined relative to build direction and loading direction relative to the X-Y-Z coordinate system.
