Abstract

A procedure is suggested, in this paper, for a rational design of guarded hot plate apparatus of assigned performances.

The dimensions of the hot plate, of the guard ring, and of the maximum specimen thickness are derived from the computation of edge heat losses and unbalance errors.

The problem of the best location of the unbalance detectors along the gap is discussed, and some solutions are proposed.

The elements for the design of the cold plates are given for both liquid cooled and gas cooled plates.
