Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the current standards and practices for steel shipping containers and their interfacing with closed system application equipment for liquid pesticides. The paper highlights existing standards and regulations which currently govern steel shipping containers. In addition, there is a summarization of a study done for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which deals with the impact on chemical manufacturers and formulators of containers and closure standardization for Category I (highly toxic) liquid agricultural pesticides. Additional factors that affect pesticide packaging containers and their compatibility with existing closed system equipment are also discussed in light of the conclusions presented by the EPA study.
