Abstract

Certain military operations require handwear that provides warmth, water resistance, and dexterity under cold, wet conditions. These same operations require the glove to be resistant to cut, puncture, abrasion, petroleum products, mold, fungus, heat, and so forth. No current military or commercial glove meets these needs. A multilayer glove system was conceived and prototypes fabricated and tested in the laboratory and the field. The outer glove has a Flexor-patterned leather shell, a waterproof/moisture breathable insert, insulation, and a Flexor-patterned fabric lining. The inner glove is of knit construction. A sizing system was developed such that the 5th percentile female through 95th percentile male can be fit with five sizes.
