New Test Method for Laminated glass wet applied sealant compatibility

1. Scope

This test method covers a laboratory screening procedure for determining the compatibility of laminated glass edges with elastomeric glazing sealants after exposure to heat, humidity and ultraviolet light.

Keywords

laminated glass, sealant, compatibility, testing

Rationale

This is a new standard for ASTM International. The methodology has been used for decades in the laminated glass industry and published by the National Glass Association (formerly the Glass Association of North America) as an industry standard for many years. At which time, the industry has used, commented and accepted this standard. As is the practice of NGA, once a standard has been published for 5 or more years with no contesting of content or method, the goal is to move it away from the organization and into an international standard body, ASTM International. This standard will cover the testing of laminated glass with wet applied sealants.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
