New Guide for Air Barriers in Low Slope Roof Systems

1. Scope

1.1 This Guide provides guidance for design of low slope roofing systems and the requirements for determining the use of air barriers placed at/or near the interior conditioned space/structural deck, and generally below the roofing system, to prevent air intrusion into the roofing system. These may be called dedicated air barriers.
2 Methods to evaluate air barrier types, performance criteria, installation, and location within low slope roofing systems as determined by in-service conditions and the desired performance of the roofing system are identified within this standard.
1.3 This standard provides guidance which may be applicable for the use of air barriers in steep slope roofing applications.

Keywords

air intrusion; air leakage

Rationale

The goal of this proposed standard is to develop a new ASTM Guide Standard to address air barriers in Low Slope roofing. This activity was approved at the December 2024 meeting of D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing by the Executive Committee and assigned to Sub Committee D08.20.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
