Rationale:
The F770 task group thanks the members for taking the time to read the rationale prior to voting and respectfully requests members consider the following voting options:
• Affirmative or Abstain
• Affirmative or Abstain with Comment
If desired, I can send you a pdf of all F24 standards where the reader can easily search for the term “user” and verify its use in all the standards.
Please contact John Riggleman (thomasjtr@aol.com) to discuss any concerns prior to posting a negative. All comments received will be reviewed and considered.
The term "User" is defined in F747. Most terms are defined in a specific F24 standard and are then copied into F747; however, "user" is not defined in any F24 standard except F747.
The definition that appears in F747-23 is: user—a participant in the use of the inflatable device as defined by the manufacturer. “User” is NOT defined in F2374 but the term “user” appears 130 times throughout the F24 standards.
In every case, the term “user” can easily be defined by the Merriam-Webster definition: a person who uses a product or service. The current definition of “user” in F747 is confusing to the use of this word throughout all the standards because it specifically limits the term to an inflatable device.
This ballot seeks to remove the definition of “user” from F747. The Merriam Webster definition is sufficient to understand the use of this word.
