New Test Method for Standard Test Method for Permanent Gases in Hydrogen Fuel by Gas Chromatography and Pulse Discharge Helium Ionization Detector (GC/PDHID)

1. Scope

This test method covers the determination of hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, methane, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the parts per billion mole (nmol/mol) to parts per million mole (umol/mol) range in hydrogen fuel.

Keywords

hydrogen fuel; PEM; hydrogen; hydrogen fuel cell; H2 ICE; Gas Chromatography; PDHID; pulsed discharge helium ionization detector; GC

Rationale

Analytical techniques are needed for measuring impurities in hydrogen fuel. Permanent gases are contaminants in hydrogen fuel that must be measured at low parts per billion concentrations. The GC/PDHID system provides a method for detection of these contaminants at the required detection limits.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
