New Test Methods for Battery-related items for surface cleaning appliances for household or similar use

1. Scope

The purpose of this document is to specify essential battery-related characteristics of battery-operated surface cleaning appliances which are of interest to users and to describe methods for measuring these characteristics

Keywords

Run time, charging, discharging, standby, maintenance power,

Rationale

The growing number of battery-operated appliances in the surface cleaning sector needs particular attention by SC 59F and ASTM F11. At present, battery-operated appliances are covered in two standards (cordless vacuum cleaners, cleaning robots). In future, more standards will cover battery-operated appliances like wet hard floor cleaners and others. It therefore seems reasonable and necessary to closely coordinate battery related items within SC 59F and ASTM F11. The most efficient way would be to bring together such items in a new standard which would deal with battery-related items like charging, discharging, running time, charging time, maintenance power and alike.
The establishment of a new standard for battery-related topics would have the advantage that other affected surface cleaning applications could be considered, thus avoiding different definitions or test methods and ensuring consistency within SC 59F/ASTM F11. The new standard should be established as a Dual Logo standard (according to the IEC/ASTM Cooperation Agreement). A joint working group has already been established (JWG10)

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
