Revision of B941-22 Standard Specification for Heat Resistant Aluminum-Zirconium Alloy Wire for Electrical Purposes

Rationale

Remove the wrap test requirement (Section 8, 14.7). Al-Zr is more ductile than 1350-H19; brittleness is not an issue. The wrap test was added because B230 was copied in the development stage of Al-Zr. Thousands of empirical data points (spanning years of production) reveal an elongation range between 2.9-6% with an average of around 4%. With this much elongation, you will not get any fracture due to brittleness; thus, the wrap test is unnecessary. Additionally, 1350-H19 aluminum often has around 1-2% elongation, sometimes less than 1%, but even with this little elongation, a wrap test fracture has not been seen.” This change was discussed during the B01.07 subcommittee meeting on November 2nd, 2023.
