Work Item
ASTM WK88877

Revision of C617/C617M-23 Standard Practice for Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens

Rationale

Note 7 currently states that mixtures of plaster of paris and Portland cement are not allowed. The two items that are commercially available for use for capping with high strength gypsum paste are mixtures of plaster of Paris and Portland cement. This ballot will remove this language.

Additionally, more guidance on the reasons for the remaining two items - low strength molding plaster and plaster of Paris - due to their use for ornamental molding purposes. Further guidance on why these materials are not applicable for use in this note.
