Revision of D3699-19 Standard Specification for Kerosine

Rationale

D187 is used in Table 1 several times. The apparatus to run D187 is no longer being manufactured and another source has not been found. At the June 2023 meeting in Denver, the committee agreed that D187 would not be withdrawn since there were still many labs that had the equipment and could run the test. It was also agreed at the June 2023 meeting to add a reference in D187 to ASTM D1322 Standard Test Method for Smoke Point of Kerosene and Aviation Turbine Fuel. ASTM D1322 has been used for many years in the Aviation Industry as a way to evaluate the quality of kerosene and aviation fuels. Though there is a reference in CAN/CGSB 3.3 that shows the methods (D187 and D1322) correlate, data to support this has not been found. Based on this, the group decided not to add it as an alternate test method in D3699, but just identify it in D3699. A footnote was also added per the June 2023 meeting to document that the equipment for the D187 test method is no longer being manufactured.
