Revision of E238-17a Standard Test Method for Pin-Type Bearing Test of Metallic Materials

Rationale

This standard test method is currently written for conventional metallic products with specimens having orientations defined relative to the longitudinal (L), transverse (T) and short (S) directions for rectangular shaped products and longitudinal (L), radial (R) and circumferential (C) directions for cylindrical product forms. This standard test method is now being used for additively manufactured materials and these L-T-S and L-C-R coordinate systems are not appropriate for these types of products. This work item is intended to address the use of this standard for additively manufactured products and incorporate specimen orientations defined relative to build direction and loading direction relative to the X-Y-Z coordinate system.
