ASTM WK88158

Revision of D1655-23a Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuels

Rationale

ASTM D1655 Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuels permits:
• Mono-, di-, and triglycerides, free fatty acids, and fatty acid esters
Or
• Hydrocarbons derived from synthesis gas via the Fischer-Tropsch process using iron or cobalt catalyst
to be co-processed with petroleum derived product at up to 5 % by volume provided:
• Hydrocracking or hydrotreatment conversion is featured together with fractional distillation.
• Additional quality control parameters are met.
An ASTM D02.J0.01 Co-processing Task Force believes that it has successfully generated data to demonstrate the 5 % by volume limit can be increased to 30 % by volume when hydrocracking mono-, di-, and triglycerides, free fatty acids, and fatty acid esters. Inclusion of the new limit specifically for this feedstock which can already be hydroprocessed at 100 % by volume under ASTM D7566 Annex 2 is sought through updated D1655 terminology and Table A1.1 analysis.
