Revision of D6751-23a Standard Specification for Biodiesel Fuel Blendstock (B100) for Middle Distillate Fuels

Rationale

This ballot is to modify ASTM Standard Specification D6751, Standard Specification for Biodiesel Fuel Blend Stock (B100) for Middle Distillate Fuels to clarify what was intended with the ‘Modern Exhaust Aftertreatment’ wording in the revision of D6751 that added a Low Metals (LM) grade published earlier this year.

The B6-B20 standard for on- and off-road diesel engines, D7467, was balloted this summer to require the use of the new LM grade of B100 for all S15 sulfur grade fuels in modern diesel engines, while still allowing all metals grades for engines that do not have modern exhaust aftertreatment. As part of the D7467 ballot, which has now passed D2 ballot, the term ‘modern exhaust aftertreatment’ was clarified and changed to ‘Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) or Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) aftertreatment technology.’

It was agreed that should the D7467 ballot pass, then a ballot to modify the wording in D6751 to match the clarification in D7467 would be proposed.

The D7467 wording has now passed, so this ballot is to modify the D6751 wording to match the clarification passed in D7467.
