Rationale

Currently, ASTM C 1048 is used as a quality standard for enamels. The specification is intended for heat-strengthened and tempered flat glass. The original intent was to include spandrel glass into the standard. Due to the lack of a standard addressing enameled glass on annealed and laminated glass and non-spandrel applications, C 1048 is being applied in unintended applications. Changing C 1048 to address these new concerns would push the existing standard outside its intended scope.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
