1.1. This test method covers analysis of the listed phenolic antioxidants in the approximate range of 1 mg/L to 50 mg/L and icing inhibitors in the approximate range of 500 mg/L to 10000 mg/L by solid phase extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPE-GC/MS).
1.2. It is applicable to aviation turbine fuels defined by ASTM D1655, such as petroleum-based aviation fuel,bio-aviation fuel and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthetic aviation fuel,
1.3. The test method does not purport to identify all individual antioxidants and icing inhibitors in aviation fuels. The interim precision estimates have been determined per D6300 for the following phenolic antioxidants: 2,6-di-tertbutylphenol; 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol; 2,6-ditert-butyl-4-methyl phenol; 4-sec-butyl-2,6-di-tert-butylphenol; 2-tert-butyl-4,6-dimethylphenol; 2-tert-butylphenol; 4-tert-butyl-2-methylphenol; and icing inhibitors 2-ethoxyethanol; 2-methoxyethanol; diethylene glycol monomethyl ether.
1.4. The test method has an interim repeatability determined per D6300. Higher concentrations can be determined by dilution, but the precision of the test method has not been determined.

This test method will allow the quantification of specific antioxidants and deicing agents specified in the aviation fuel specification D1655. Currently, no test method is specified for their determination. This new test method will thus supplement the specification for these compounds.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
