Revision of D8270-23b Standard Terminology Relating to Cannabis
Rationale
A working group comprised of representatives from 3 countries completed a review of the existing D8270 Terminology standard and proposes a partitioning into sections to assist ease-of-use by specific sectors. The sections include: common terms, psychoactive cannabis, hemp, medical cannabis. No additions are proposed in this ballot. There is precedent elsewhere in ASTM committees to split terminology based on specific industry sectors. The proposed change seeks to eliminate many adjectives in terms and provides a more succinct set of terminology for those needing terms specific to a singular sector.
This revision assists to clarify terms that apply to one sector but not another, and introduces a section for medical cannabis which is a commercially specific sector in many countries. Existing terms were assigned to each section, with added words and/or sections highlighted in yellow within this document. No changes have been made to existing terms.
