New Guide for Industry Requirements for Voluntary Spaceflight Safety Information Sharing Processes (VSS-ISP)

1. Scope

To identify and define the spaceflight industry requirements for Voluntary Space Safety Information-Sharing Processes (VSS-ISP). The standard could inform the Federal Space Administration Office of Commercial Space (FAA/AST) future VSS-ISP activities related to the collection, sharing and databasing safety-related information, and for example to use that information to proactively identify, analyze, in order to provide Advisory Circular (AC) guidance, standardization, and correct safety issues that affect commercial space.

Rationale

The Guidance intends to reflect industry consensus on the requirements for effective and robust VSS-ISP's.
The requirements to include the development of a standardized protocol for voluntarily entered safety data, aggregate it through a distributed database, and make it accessible to appropriate industry stakeholders for analysis, recommendations, safety alerts, advisory circulars, etc.

This Guidance intends to define key components of safety data, the set of functional requirements for archive and database development.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
