Revision of G34-01(2018)e1 Standard Test Method for Exfoliation Corrosion Susceptibility in 2XXX and 7XXX Series Aluminum Alloys (EXCO Test)
Rationale
1. Some Al-Cu-Li alloys are registered in 2xxx series. It is known that ASTM G34 is not applicable to Al-Cu-Li alloys. The scope of this standard needs to be revised to reflect that.
2. Some of the statements in Section 5.3 are no longer applicable and need to be taken out.
3. The second paragraph in Section 11.6 needs to be revised to allow more flexibility in selecting the test duration for G34, for example, a customer specification may stipulate a specific test duration for ASTM 34.
