New Guide for Guide for Analytical Investigations to Determine Asbestos Content of Resulting Residue/Product from Asbestos Vitrification and/or Denaturing Processes

1. Scope

Asbestos building material waste has, for decades been disposed in hazardous landfills. Over the last 40 years small-scale and larger industrial-sized attempts have been made to alter the asbestos in the waste materials by use of thermal, chemical, and related means. However, robust analytical testing reveals, in the majority of cases, surviving asbestos mineral. A testing regimen needs to be standardized for the growing industry in North America, Europe, and other International stakeholders. ASTM has developed and is working on analytical methods to meet this demand.
