ASTM WK87801

New Test Method for Determination of Amphibole is materials by Heavy Liquid Separation (HLS).

1. Scope

SCOPE: Laboratory method to determine amphibole minerals in materials using heavy liquid separation (HLS) techniques.
This method is needed because there currently is no ASTM method for these micron sizes minerals that can be found in consumer products such as of cosmetic and pharmaceutical talc materials for asbestos content. Such a method is necessary in order to provide some standardization of materials preparation before analysis. Current methods of analysis (FDA/CTPA) are outdated and do not consider advances in the science of asbestos analysis or regulatory compliance.
