Revision of E2523-13(2018) Standard Terminology for Metalworking Fluids and Operations
Rationale
Terminology E2523 is due for reapproval or revision in 2023. ASTM Form & Style (April 2023) provides somewhat telegraphic guidance on how to prepare definitions and definitions of terms specific to the standard. The proposed new Appendix provides detailed guidance on best practices for determining whether to define a term in a given standard’s terminology section, and how to define terms. It also provides recommendations for ensuring that definitions remain harmonized among all standards under E34.50’s direct responsibility. The proposed Appendix is adapted from those developed by ASTM Subcommittee D02.95 on Terminology for inclusion in Terminology D4175 Relating to Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels, and Lubricants.
