New Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Nickel-Boron or Nickel-Phosphorus Coatings by a Taber-Type Abraser

1. Scope

This test method quantifies the resistance of nickel-boron coatings or nickel-phosphorus coatings to abrasive wear. The coatings are produced by autocatalytic (electroless) deposition from aqueous solutions and applied to a plane, rigid surface.

Rationale

During previous B08 meetings, it was agreed upon that the abrasion test method described in ASTM B607 – Appendix X2 and ASTM B733 – Appendix X1 should be their own separate test methods. Due to the similarity of the procedures, this method covers both materials.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
