Revision of A1069/A1069M-19 Standard Specification for Laser and Laser Hybrid Welded Stainless Steel Bars, Plates, and Shapes
Rationale
The changes being made by this ballot were approved by the A01 Executive Committee as a “Plan B”, if required. They will permit A1069/A1069M to be used for specification of structural stainless steel tube. These changes will only be made if the emergency ballot for WK75029 New Standard Specification for Carbon Steel Laser and Laser-Hybrid Welded, Sharp Cornered Profile (SCP), Built-Up, Square, Rectangular, and Special Shape Tube does not pass in time for the committee for AISC 370 Specification for Structural Stainless Steel Buildings, to approve the new tube standard prior to balloting, which starts in February 2024. Since A1069/A1069M was approved in a prior version of AISC 370, there is more time to make the changes that are being balloted in it, such as tolerances that would also be relevant for tube.
These changes are intended as a temporary measure and will not result in work stopping on the development of the new tube standard as A01 has separate subcommittees for tube. When a sentence is also being revised by WK84632 Revision with title change of A1069/A1069M Standard Specification for Laser and Laser Hybrid Welded Stainless Steel Bars, Plates, and Shapes, which started balloting in January 2023, the changes made by that WK have been duplicated.
