New Guide for Guide for Testing Cleaning Performance of Hand Dishwashing Detergents

1. Scope

Introducing a standard method that will cover cleaning performance in hand dishwash applications.

1.1 This guide provides guidelines for several techniques of measuring the cleaning performance of light-duty hand dishwashing detergents in the presence of artificially applied test soils and/or standardized Ready To Use (RTU) Testmaterials. It is intended as a laboratory screening test to aid in the formulation of products, for quality control and as a basis between the formulator and supplier in standardizing specific products’ cleaning performance.

1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Keywords

cleaning; enzymes

Rationale

There is not a currently available method that directly addresses cleaning performance of hand dishwashing detergents. Method D4009 measures foam stability of hand dishwashing detergents, but not cleaning performance per se. On the other hand, method D4488 addresses cleaning performance for floors and walls. Therefore we propose introducing a standard method that will cover cleaning performance in hand dishwash applications.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
