Revision of F876-23 Standard Specification for Crosslinked Polyethylene (PEX) Tubing
Rationale
The “thermoplastic tubing materials designation code” definition contains requirements for the users of this and other standards. It is not good practice to place requirements within the definitions of terms. In the interest of preserving and clarifying these valuable requirements, the information contained in this definition and in other locations in F876 is intended to be moved to new Annex A1 that lays out the method for determining the PEX Material Designation Code.
The definitions specific to this standard will be reviewed and revised as needed. The task group intends to keep useful definitions in the standard even if they are also defined in F412. Content in the Definitions section that is more appropriately located in other places in the standard will be moved.
As a result of changes planned in section 3 and the new Annex being created, cross references within this standard and to referred documents also are updated.
The changes proposed will improve this standard's organization and clarity. The proposed changes will also result in the standard being easier to revise if future innovations require revisions to be made. For example projects at ASTM and PPI are expected to result in new HDS categories.
