This ballot revises reporting sections 8.1 and 8.2. In both sections it is a requirement to report the precision and bias (P&B) discussed in section 9 of the standard. While precision and bias is a critical part of a test method, it’s not appropriate to require the reporting of the P&B in a test report. A more appropriate reporting item would be the precision of the measurement, but that is different from a P&B statement. In addition, section 8.2.5 requires the report contain “the expected effect of any differences between the research tests and those used to define the method’s precision and bias”. This would require a lab to report the expected differences in the results compared to all the P&B statements (6 P&B’s going back to 1993). This would also require a test lab to report opinions. This offers no helpful content to a test report, and possibly violates a lab’s ISO 17025 accreditation. This ballot revises reporting sections 8.1 and 8.2 by removing the requirement to report P&B and includes a note in each section that reference where the P&B information can be found in the document.
