Revision of D2983-22 Standard Test Method for Low-Temperature Viscosity of Automatic Transmission Fluids, Hydraulic Fluids, and Lubricants using a Rotational Viscometer
Rationale
To correct an inadvertent change in a previous ballot.
In previous ballots Item 37 of D02 (21-07) main committee ballot and subcommittee ballot D02.07(21-08), part of the rationale for the ballot was to insert an additional measurement of the initial viscosity between 5 and 10 s of measurement to be reported alongside the stabilized value to indicate the a possible non-Newtonian behavior. This included a revision to the table A6.1 “Automatic Viscometer Program for Temperature Calibration-Procedure D”. When this change was made, it appears the “Spindle Speed, r/min” for the first step was inadvertently changed from 5 to 0. As listed in the table column Purpose, the purpose for this step is “Function check”. The function check can only occur if the speed is above 0 r/min, and thus the 5 r/min should have remained the same.
This action item and ballot would be to change the Table 6.1 “Automatic Viscometer Program for Temperature Calibration-Procedure D” column labeled “Spindle Speed, r/min” from 0 r/min to 5 r/min for the first step.
