ASTM WK86665

New Test Method for Determination of Viable Bile-Tolerant Gram Negative Bacteria Count Enumeration in Dried Cannabis Flower Using Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR)

1. Scope

Primary topics covered in this standard will be DNA extraction, assay set up (e.g. primer and probe set and internal control), polymerase chain reaction parameters, and results analysis

Keywords

microbial emeration test; bile tolerant gram negative bacteria; dried cannabis flower; qPCR

Rationale

This new standard is needed, because more than 10 US jurisdictions that have legal cannabis programs require the enumeration of the bile tolerant gram negative bacteria. This new standard will be use by method developers to develop and validate qPCR assays to enumerate bile tolerant Gram negative bacteria in a cannabis flower sample.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
