New Guide for Sample Preparation of infused products(edibles) and oils/concentrates for laboratory analysis.

1. Scope

To present an overview of sample preparation best practices for infused products (edibles) and oils/concentrates for laboratory analysis. There are many types of edibles and most are ammenable to cryogenic milling, whereas oils/concentrates require extraction in various organic solvents to obtain the best overall extraction efficiency. This Guide will touch on several matrix types including but not limited to gummies, hard candies, and chocolate, this is NOT an exhaustive list but most commonly analyzed cannabis-infused products only.  Concentrates and oils also will be limited to waxes, shatters, and distillate.

Keywords

sample preparation, cryogenic milling, infused products, edibles, concentrates and oils

Rationale

There is an unmet need for sample preparation of infused products and edibles, concentrates, and oils with many different approaches overall this guide will present a pathway for best practices and provide precedence in the literature for consideration with cryogenic milling being presented for infused products and how best to select the extraction solvent for oils and concentrates with an extraction efficiency study- or exhaustive extraction being discussed in detail.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
