Revision of F2613-22 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Children's Chairs and Stools
Rationale
The following are revisions to the Scope section of the Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Children’s Chairs and Stools, ASTM F2613-22. These changes are intended to remove the direct inclusion of “children’s step stools” in hopes that the CPSC will adopt the most updated version of the standard. The CPSC rejected ASTM F2613-22 because they viewed the exemption of “children’s step stools” as a reduction in safety. Even with the proposed change, step stools are not considered in scope of this standard because they are furniture intended for standing and not sitting. At the March 2023 F15.59 subcommittee meeting, the committee voted to develop a new standard for children’s step stools and kitchen helpers to fill this gap.
