Revision of D4951-14(2019) Standard Test Method for Determination of Additive Elements in Lubricating Oils by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry

Rationale

The metals that customers would like to see / monitor in fluids can extend beyond those that are identified in the current scope. As the method is written, a lab cannot be compliant with the method if an element outside of the defined scope is reported. Other D02.03 standards already include language that allows for additional elements beyond those defined in the scope to be reported with a clear caveat that an ILS study has not been performed and no precision has been identified. It is being suggested that similar additional language be added to this method along with reference to D7260 for appropriate setup and verification.
