Revision of E284-22 Standard Terminology of Appearance
Rationale
E284, “Terminology of Appearance,” was revised in late 2022. The revision leading to E284-22 included certain reformatting by the E12 Editor in order to conform to ASTM Form & Style guidelines. This involved breaking out enumerated alternative definitions of a given term as separate entries, with italicized delimiting phrases indicating the corresponding fields of application. Approximately 30 terms (listed below) were affected by this change. The review of these alternative definitions, and they way that they are distringuished, raise changes raise questions that warrant further consideration
