Revision of E4-21 Standard Practices for Force Calibration and Verification of Testing Machines
Rationale
Originally, we thought there should be an appendix or annex in E4 that should describe how to calibrate and verify force rate for a testing machine. After looking at this more closely, we decided that this would further the use of specifying stress rate/force rate as a means of control in test standards rather than cause committees to eliminate or minimize its use. We feel force rate control should be eliminated as much as possible in test standards because it can lead to increased variability in test results.
