This practice covers the reconstitution and compaction methodologies and their respective quality control procedure for the preparation of representative soil specimens for geotechnical laboratory tests.

On many occasions retrieving an intact specimen is not possible. A lot of design decisions are made based on the tests conducted on reconstituted specimens. This standard aims to standardize the reconstitution procedure for some of the most widely used methods, explain each method’s applicability and limitations and establish quality control mechanisms for each method.
