New Test Method for Corrosion of Aluminum Alloys in Fuel Cell or Battery Electric Vehicle Coolant Under Heat-Rejecting Conditions

1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers a laboratory screening procedure for evaluating the effectiveness of a Fuel Cell or Battery Electric vehicle coolant in protecting against corrosion of an aluminum alloy under heat-transfer conditions that may be present in the vehicle cooling system.
1.2 This test method compares the anti-corrosion property of coolants compared to an ethyl glycol– water mixture. No corrosive water is used in this test.
1.3 This test method evaluates the corrosion on an aluminum plate.

Keywords

Electromotive vehicle

Rationale

Electromotive vehicle designers and coolant producers need a test to evaluate the effectiveness of coolant in protecting cooling systems from corrosion at hot surfaces within the cooling system.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
