1. This standard describes a thermal desorption (TD) gas chromatography - tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) method for determining fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs) concentrations in test chamber air.
2. The target FTOHs include 4:2 FTOH, 6:2 FTOH, 8:2 FTOH, and 10:2 FTOH.
3. The method is focused on measuring FTOHs in test chamber air; however, the method may be applicable to indoor air, including vehicle and workplace air, air from associated sampling containers, such as sampling bags or bottles, and ambient outdoor air.

Elevated levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been widely detected in consumer products, building materials, indoor air, and house dust. These measurements underscore the relevance of the indoor environment to human exposure. Another potential source of PFAS in the indoor environment is through vapor intrusion from PFAS contaminated subsurface vapor sources. Reliable experimental measurements for emissions of PFAS into the indoor environment are critical for understanding how PFAS move through the environment to impact people and ecosystems. Whereas there have been PFAS methods developed for water, soils, sediments, biosolids, biota, and outdoor source emissions, there are currently no similar efforts for vapor-phase PFAS in indoor air or in emission test chambers. Fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs) are volatile and semivolatile precursors to perfluorinated carboxylic acids and other PFAS. They have been frequently detected in indoor air. This standard describes a thermal desorption-gas chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS/MS) method to determine FTOHs in air, verified using test chamber air samples. The standard can be used for measuring emissions of FTOHs. The method may also be applicable to indoor and ambient outdoor air samples.
