New Test Method for Durability Test Method for Vacuum Insulating Glass Unit

1. Scope

1. Scope
1.1 This specification covers preassembled permanently sealed vacuum insulating glass units (VIGU) with one vacuum space between the glass faces.
1.2 This specification is applicable only to vacuum insulating glass units that are constructed with glass.
1.3 Qualification under this specification is intended to provide a basis for evaluating the durability of sealed vacuum insulating glass units.
1.4 This specification does cover other physical requirements such as appearance, thermophysical properties, heat and light transmission, and glass displacement.
1.5 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Keywords

Vacuum Insulating Glass; VIG; Vacuum Glass

Rationale

This standard will be used to evaluate VIG units with defined test standards applicable to VIG units. The current test standards for IG units are not adequate to test VIG units as the seal system and failure mechanisms may be quite different.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
