The tinting strength test was developed to assist manufacturers with a method for determining the power of a pigment to tint white paint as a means to validate if a known pigment is adulterated with another colorant of higher chroma. The standard has no usefulness to manufacturers because they select pigment manufacturers that produce and market quality products that have no need to be tested in this manner. Other better quantitative tests are available to determine pigment adulteration that do not rely on subjective visual assessment.
