New Guide for the Specification, Selection, Design, and Maintenance of Fencing for Outdoor Recreational Activities Areas, Playspaces and Playing Fields used in a Publicly Accessible Site

1. Scope

This guide will provide an information and options for the provision of fencing used in publicly accessible outdoor recreation, playspaces and playing field areas. The guidance can be used in the development of the benefit/risk assessment used in the determination of whether a fence, a design or configuration are warranted.

Keywords

playground; chain link fence; waterplay; fence post

Rationale

There are circumstances where an owner/operator of outdoor recreation playspace area determines the need for fencing to limit access to and/or egress from an activity area. Generally, the object of the fence is either people or animals access/egress; however, there can be the need to prevent the escape of devices commonly used within a specific activity area. There can also be circumstances where the fence is intended to prevent incursion into the activity area by vehicles including automotive vehicles.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
