1. Scope
1.1 The purpose of this specification is to establish requirements for the Special Inspection
Agency and their Special Inspectors, in the daily exercise of their service. These requirements

1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns if any, assoicated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.3 This standard provides requirements so an accredited Special Inspection Agency can provide a qualified special inspector, to verify that all required items listed on the Statement of Special Inspections Requirements for a project have been verified and their installations are in accordance with the project contract documents.
1.4 The text of this standard references notes and footnotes that provide explanatorily material. These notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be considered as requirements of the standard.
IBC, Special Inspection
Since the mass adoption of the International Building Code, by all 50 States, the need for Standards written to the Special Inspection Agency and the Special Inspectors, on how to effectively complete their inspections has become increasingly relevant. ASTM does not have a Standard on the Specification for Special Inspection
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
