New Test Method for Chlorine in Processed Waste Water by Monochromatic Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

1. Scope

This method covers total chlorine determination in processed waste water by monochromatic wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (MWDXRF) spectrometry.

This test method is applicable to processed waste water samples with chlorine concentrations from 1 mg/kg to 1000 mg/kg. Higher chlorine concentrations can be determined by quantitatively diluting the sample with distilled water.

Keywords

MWDXRF; Monochromatic WDXRF; chlorine; water

Rationale

Before processed waste water is released, it must be measured for chlorine, and current technologies require a longer measurement time and more sample preparation, and have halide interferences. Chlorine is also monitored for corrosion purposes.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
