ASTM International’s nondestructive testing committee (E07) has presented its 2026 Charles W. Briggs Award to Andrew Ferro.
The Charles W. Briggs Award is conferred for continuous and outstanding contributions to the work of committee E07 through its subcommittees, sections, and task forces. Ferro was recognized for his continuous and significant contributions to ASTM subcommittees E07.01 and E07.11 since 2015. His leadership has been instrumental in publishing and updating a wide array of DICONDE standards. These standards have greatly helped the industry manage large-scale datasets and interface effectively with various suppliers. He is widely recognized for his expertise in imaging, assisted defect recognition (ADR), mathematics, and voting transparency, all of which have contributed to his lasting impact on the field and the ASTM community.
An ASTM International member since 2015, Ferro has been previously awarded by ASTM with two Certificates of Appreciation. Ferro serves as principal engineer – NDE image analysis at GE Aerospace, taking on the role in 2022 after previously working for GE Aerospace as a lead engineer and a senior engineer.
Ferro received his bachelor of science degree (2004) in computer engineering and his master of science in electrical engineering (2005), both from the University of Cincinnati.
