The committee on metallography (E04), for example, sponsors the Mary R. Norton Memorial Scholarship Award for Women that provides $1,000 to women college seniors or first-year graduate students to pursue physical metallurgy or materials science. Competitions further awareness of how standards relate to their technical fields. For example, the committee on fatigue and fracture (E08), for example sponsors and awards the E08 Best Student Paper Award for research papers in the field of fracture and subcritical crack growth. Invite area students to an event that give your committee members the opportunity to socialize with them. Consider adding a class visit or a lab tour. And when your committee meets near a university, check whether you might provide a guest lecture on a technical topic, an introduction to ASTM International, or the importance of standards to their future careers.
